Evans House
connecting 75 of Seattle's most vulnerable
men and women to homes, health and community

Evans House is named in memory of Richard Evans, a DESC employee who died in 1989.  Formerly homeless himself, Richard was the inspiration for much of DESC's core philosophy.  He taught us to meet people where they are in their recovery process, and to never give up on anyone.

  • Evans House was rated the number one priority in King County's 2003 Continuum of Care application to the US Dept of Housing and Urban Development
  • The building will operate with licensed mental health case managers on site, working exclusively with the 75 residents
  • This innovative model brings Medicaid funds to cover the service costs for residents and provide them with the same quality of care enjoyed by other DESC supportive housing projects
  • When complete in 2007, this project will provide 24-hour staffing to offer the support and treatment necessary for residents to remain housed for the long-term, ending their tenures on the streets and in shelters
