How to Help
Become a Volunteer
DESC depends upon, and receives, strong support from the community in order to provide services and operate programs.

Volunteers play an important role at DESC by enhancing the services we are able to provide, and allowing homeless people–who are some of the most isolated and marginalized members of our community–to interact with "regular" people in the community. Volunteers are currently active in all four of DESC’s programs, as well as in administrative areas.

People who volunteer at DESC often gain deeper insight into the issues surrounding homelessness, as well as the challenges faced by the population that we serve.

While the responsibilities vary, all positions require dependability, good communication skills and the ability to interact with people from a variety of backgrounds.

Please review the current list of volunteer opportunities. If you have a group of volunteers and are interested in helping out for the holidays, please consider taking part in our Holiday Gift Drive.

If you are then interested in volunteering at DESC, please contact the Volunteer and Donations Coordinator at (206) 515-1517, or email volunteers@desc.org

Visit our FAQ's page for additional information on volunteering at DESC.

Corporate Volunteer Matching

Did you know that some companies actually give us money for the time their employees spend volunteering at DESC?  Find out if your company matches volunteer hours and increase the impact you're already making as a volunteer.
