
Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC) is a
non-profit organization dedicated to helping the most disabled and
vulnerable homeless men and women survive and achieve their highest
possible
level of self-sufficiency. DESC serves over 6,500 people annually, and
provides emergency shelter and survival services, clinical programs and
supportive housing. We have been recognized by HUD and others not just
for quality, but for effective integration across programs that
constitutes a "continuum of care" within the agency.
DESC
prioritizes services for people who are:
- Mentally ill
- Chemically dependent*
- Female
- Elderly
- Physically
or developmentally disabled
- Medically
compromised
DESC's
continuum of care includes the following services:
DESC's
20-bed Crisis Respite Program provides intensive clinical services to
mentally ill homeless adults in crisis. DESC's Information and Referral
Program has become widely respected in the community.
* Provided they are working with a recognized treatment
provider on a plan for getting off the streets and into housing.
